SAP is cutting jobs – news from the international press

15/5/2014

German Software  Giant SAP Planning Layoffs
The Wall Street Journal online (USA) |  13.05.2014

SAP is cutting jobs as it modernizes  its organization and shift
its focus from packaged software to a cloud-based  software delivery model. The layoffs follow a series of high-level executive  departures and precede a vote that will make co-Chief Executive, Bill  McDermott, the company's sole CEO. A company spokesman said the goal of the  layoffs wasn't to cut the overall head count but to realign the company's  resources with its new strategy. He said the company planned to end the year  with more employees than it began with.
According to SAP spokesman, James  Dever, SAP "will support affected employees to find new opportunities  both inside and outside SAP." (subscription required;  also appeared in  "The Wall Street Journal", May 14, p.18)

SAP Cutting Jobs  As CEO McDermott Hastens Software Shift
Bloomberg online (USA) | 13.05.2014

SAP is planning widespread job cuts  for the first time in over four years as the company shifts to online cloud  computing services. Despite job cuts, SAP spokesman, Jim Dever, says the  company will close the year with
higher numbers of workers than are currently  employed. The cuts come as the company is transitioning its leadership, with  co-CEO Bill McDermott soon to become sole CEO, and as SAP also experiences  several executive level changes.
An unnamed source said that job reductions  would not number in the high
thousands and that some of the positions to be  cut were back office support
positions for companies acquired by SAP.

PCWorld online (USA) | 13.05.2014

SAP is restructuring its skill set and  trimming down its workforce. This comes just before SAP's annual Sapphire Now  conference and just
after several executive changes, including the departure  of Vishal Sikka.
According to SAP spokesman, Andy Kendzie "This  initiative is about simplifying SAP for the customer... we will continue to  invest in our innovation leadership and become the cloud company." SAP  also announced layoff plans in 2009, but has since added to its numbers  through acquisitions like Sybase, SuccessFactors and Ariba. Sapphire Now,  which will showcase SAP's product road map and its strategic vision, begins  June 3 in Orlando. (also seen on zdnet.com, pcadvisor.co.uk, infoworld.com,  cio.com, computerworld.com)
